MAGAZINE blog

Lily Mackintosh

Lily has really found her scene within the photography industry; she has thrived in the studio and working using gels and a mixture of flash and continuous lighting for fashion-based work. In the summer she had the opportunity to work with Adidas London X Guap magazine in the Original Creators Network Class of 2024. In which Lily took part in a bi-weekly workshop to then create a final piece of work for an exhibition at Somerset House.

As well as being a photographer in her own right, she has had many opportunities where she’s assisted on shoots for fellow photographers, refining her skills and capacities within the studio and all that comes together to create an image.

What magazine would she be apart of if she could?

I would love to be a part of a magazine which focuses on celebrating young and upcoming creatives as that aligns with what I want to do in the future, being to help other creatives in the industry!

What’s next for Lily?

The next steps for me are to keep shooting as much as possible and experiment with other medias. Since I worked with Adidas and Guap last summer I was inspired by who I worked with to become more multi-disciplinary and extend my work into these areas.

Sarh Mohrros

Not just thriving in the studio, she goes out and about with street photography, her approach is bold and, in your face, quite literally, using film cameras and small compact digital cameras with flash. Sarh often captures people on the street close up and off guard; this is a controversial approach that has definitely gotten her in a few uncomfortable situations with the subject, but in the end it’s the shot that counts

Sarh is one of the most creative people I have met while in London, we met at uni, where I’ve been lucky enough to see her talent in person. Her desire to create physical attributes such as props, clothing and backdrops for her shoots is amazing. She has worked in a range of mediums in her work, using polaroids, film, digital and scans with layering. Sarh’s work is the kind of photography that needs to be displayed in a large scale to be able to see the detail in her work and all the levels of her work and take in just how grand it is.

Wherever Sarh goes she has a camera on her, insuring to capture something that inspires or intrigues her. There is never a dull day out or shot with Sarh and it’s a privilege to see and be a part of, as well as to be a friend of hers.

Dream Magazine to feature in

i-D - Because they're subculture and relevance in the magazine industry, as well as their style and what they represent.

About

In her spare time Sarh enjoys to go out with her friends and rollerblade, starting this hobby when she was young, she had a break from it and has returned to it recently; going out and about around London, making a day of it and going to new and old locations.

I really look forward to seeing what Sarh creates in the future and where her creativity takes her in life in all the ways she lives it.

What's next for Sarh

Sarh want's to work more on her creative ideas and working with creatives within the industry and collaborating. Growing her set design skills along with her studio skills. With the aim to apply more mediums to her work and allow her creatives ideas to flow on all these different levels.

CHLOE LESCOTT

About

Chloe is a photographer from Cambridge and based in London, her main focuses is in fashion photography, both in studio and on location. She thrives in the studio the most and has worked hard to grow her name and connections by attending networking events and putting herself out there. Being the kind and outgoing person she is, has resulted in many collaborations for her and growing her portfolio that I have had the pleasure to assist on.

Chloe and I met at university in 2022 and since then have worked on many projects together, with us working very well in the studio with Chloe as the photographer and myself as the studio manager role, helping to make Chloe’s keen eye for detail in fashion come to life. However, not just being a good work duo, I have also found Chloe to be a great friend, who always has the time to discuss photography ideas but also ideal to a have a laugh with. Chloe found a passion for photography when her mum needed some images taken for her business, in doing this she found she enjoyed being behind the camera and showing her creative style in this medium. Then taking photography as one of her subjects in Sixth Form Chloe felt the connection with this work flow and since has followed and grown in her own right.

What's next for Chloe

Chloe’s goals within photography are to work with or be an in-house photographer for a fashion brand magazine or company. She wishes to do this by continuing to collaborating more with other creatives, in a role as not just a photographer, but stylist or organiser for campaigns and shoots she will be a part of. Chloe’s dream magazine to work with would be Vogue, she says it maybe “Cliché” but is also something that she has always strived towards.

CHARLIE FOULKES

About

Charlie is a skate photographer based in Cambridge and London; he’s been in this genre of photography for the past 9 years. He shoots on digital and film cameras, often out on location using flash guns and hand-held camera with a slow shutter speed to both capture movement and a still in the flash. He’s built his name in the skateboarding scene from being a skater himself and going to skate parks to practice, but also scout out potential skaters to photograph and collaborate with. With this constant persistence his work has been in several skate magazines, including The Skateboarders Companion. As well as still images he works in moving images, creating and producing skate videos that include a range of skateboarders that he has met over the years. Charlie is a proud member of the Cambridge skate community and from the premier of his film put the purchase of the ticket towards raising money for the local organisation Cam Skate.

Charlie studies Digital Photography at Ravensbourne University London, where him and I first met at the beginning of second year, when he re-joined the course to finish his degree. Being the “new guy” of the class meant more attention on him, and obviously I needed to talk to him like the extrovert I am. Discovering we share the same name meant that I had to be his friend and lucky for me he was also a pretty nice guy.

Skating & Creating

Alongside skateboarding and filming, Charlie enjoys playing guitar and creating jewellery in his spare time, further showing and adding to his creative side of life. By taking a sustainable approach to his jewellery making, Charlie collects river glass and other cool finds that wash up from along the Thames that has been naturally tumbled by the rocks. He then wraps it in wire and creates necklaces from them.

What's next

Charlie will continue to grow and work in the skate scene, with the aim to be an in house (staff) photographer for a skate magazine or brand, going on location and shooting specific skaters and for specific brands.
